Dan Hicks is Gone

OK, this is too much. Twenty sixteen may see the demise of every musician I liked when I was young(er). In today’s SF Chronicle came the report that Dan Hicks has died. That may mean little to many of you, Hicks was mainly a West Coast act, LA and San Francisco. But he holds a distinctive spot in my musical memory. I may have always been somewhat of an old fogey. In my younger days,…

Yes, We Are Back

Yes, we ARE back. I know, it has been almost 3 weeks. Our return flight arrived in El Paso at 2 AM, after a 2+ hour delay in Phoenix. Not only that, but the temperature was in the 30’s when we arrived! Who turned off the heat??? It was 86 when we left, and then we spent 16 days in 90/90 weather (90F and 90% Humidity). Happy July 4th everyone! Since our rainy season came early this year, it is a tad muggy in the desert today. The humidity is at 40% according to my weather gauge. One of our neighbors is hosting a get together later. And as the sun sets there will be fireworks. New Mexico is an interesting state for fireworks. There is no state-wide law, so each municipality has there own regulations. In our area, the city…

Where is Borneo?

Two years ago, Irene and I visited Thailand and Cambodia. We had a great trip, and found the people friendly and welcoming, and the food outstanding. Well, considering we aren’t getting any younger, and I wanted to return to Southeast Asia, we are going again. This time, our primary objective is Borneo! We are actually visiting Malaysia, which includes part of Borneo. Our itinerary will include Kuala Lumpur, Georgetown (Penang), Malaysian Borneo (Sandakan, Lahad Datu,…
